If it wasn't for that sweet lens, front ring, and the fun filters, I think I'd rather have an LX5. It's just not the compact "king" some have crowned it. That could just because I'm so familiar now with the LX series, but I don't recall having to spend so much time "figuring" out my LX's as I am with this XZ-1.Īll of that being said, it's still a keeper. But the software/firmare doesn't feel as intuitive or mature as the Panasonic LX cameras. The XZ-1 has a great lens, is well built, and has some fun-factor filters and settings. ![]() I'll also say that I don't think this version of the FW 1.1 is quite ready for prime-time. And although the ability to do USB charging is nice, Olympus really should have included a charger as well. that XZ-1 manual blows and really lame they don't include a printed one. ![]() I messed around with it last light and got it figured out. This will save the settings for the next time you choose "C" on the mode dial. (I have mine set up to make it easier for a stranger when I want to get into a picture.) THEN go to the wrench menu, select Custom Mode Setup and then choose "Set". Pick the individual settings you wish to save. You have to start with one of the other modes (PASM). You cannot change the "Custom" settings when the camera is set to "C" mode. I played with it for a few days before figuring out what you have to do. why have a "C" mode at all if none of the custom settings appears to be independent of any of the other shooting modes? Some of the settings like sharpness, and saturation are saved and are now set the same for any of the PASM modes including "C" mode. I set everything the way I want and then go to menu, wrench, setup, and set. In other words, if I have my shooting mode set in anything other than "C" mode. if these settings are saved for all of these modes, then why have a "custom" shooting mode at all? This is saved the same for all PASM modes. Doesn't save any of the other settings like ND. then it only seems to save the settings like sharpness, saturation, contrast, et. ![]() and set all of this in Manual and then save by setting "set" under the wrench. For example, if I want my custom shooting mode to have the ND filter set to on and I want the ISO set to Auto and the metering set to center-weighted, etc. I tried that but it doesn't save all the settings.
